It seems autumn snuck up on me over parents' weekend at work. Of course, being a band director on parents' weekend means no time to breathe, let alone enjoy the change of seasons. But... So, for September's Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, I have a rather confused garden. It's not sure whether it's summer or fall. And this 4 days of nonstop heavy rain has been problematic... First, the veggie garden seems to think it may be high summer. At least the cantaloupe and the bell peppers do.

One of the few things I miss since I moved out of the big city is the availability of good bagels. I guess when I visit my mother (about 45 mins away), I can stop by Big Apple Bagels, the only bagel shop within striking distance. But they tend to have "namby-pamby" bagels, and a preponderance of sweet bagels - my tastes tend toward the savory side. It's been a while since I've posted, but that's because school's started, so I've been working all day 7 days a week. But, all progress in the garden has not stopped! First, I finally got my first ripe tomato of the year, just 5 days ago (August 28). What a frustrating year! Of course, my neighbors' gardens have already had several tomatoes, though theirs were late as well. But, their plants are all dead now, succumbing to verticillium wilt.
