Arugh!!! That is a fear of mine. One of my girlfriend's had a possum that got stuck and drown in her toilet.

oh lord. In our old apartment we had a Mr. Scratchy. Turned out to be a Raccoon - who then died in our wall. Horrible horribleness followed. Hope it finds a way out! :)

Ha! Good to know you're still alive. Saturday morning we heard a new scratching behind the stove. Pulled out the stove and didn't see any holes, but could still hear the scratching. Checked to make sure the cats weren't trapped, and left to go to a…

About:
My partner and I bought our first house and it's on 4.5 acres.
I need to learn it.all. :)

Our house was originally built around 1910. The previous owners moved it to its current location and proceeded to "fix it up" in the most odd and WRONG ways!

We love our home and our land and have plenty of work to do on both.

Still Alive

I've been away for a bit. Life has been stressful and I've been a bit down. So much keeps going wrong with the house. I've been pretty mentally and emotionally exhausted. Through the rougher times I make sure that I keep working on the garden, appreciating the chickens, and keep learning - however small I may think it is. Things can wait - (ugh like just finding out the plumbing to my tub has come disconnected under the house - just using the other one until I can get to it) - there are a few th… Continue

Chicken-ladies

Posting an entry from my partner's journal:

My chicken-ladies are doing wonderfully. They'll be about a month old on Thursday, and I am anxious to get them out of the house, out of their brooder box, and into the coop and kennel.

Have I described them much? There are nine of them; the ladies of Chance Ranch total 13 now. Estrogen overload. The largest is Adele (an Araucana), the smallest is Alberta (a New Hampshire Red), and in between are Ashley, Araminta, Abigail, Aretha, Agatha, Aurora, and… Continue

Seedlings are growin'! Chickens are comin'! Raised beds bein' built!

We are busy bees getting ready for this Spring!

Some seedlings are beginning to pop up :)

I'm pretty scared that I'm going to eff it all up and kill most of them. Trying to learn as much as I can. I've been reading the Square Foot Gardening book and that has helped with a lot of the… Continue

Built a grow stand for seedlings

I planted some seedlings this weekend and chose the spot for our two raised beds. I hope they will get enough sun. We haven't been in the house very long and are still learning how things go during all seasons.

Here's the little grow stand I made. I can add more shelves as I get better at this whole gardening thing. :)

That pic is from before planting the seedlings and before leveling th… Continue

Chicken coop!

We bought a chicken coop of someone in town. His dog kept eating all of his chickens and the coop is good as new! I was dreading having to build one since I haven't built up my tool collection.

The coop did fall out of the back of our friend's truck on the way to our place, but the seller offered to come back to our place and help us put it all back together. Yay!

Tomorrow I will get a bit of fencing for around the coop and then it will be good to go. We plan on letting them free range the lan… Continue
