Thank you so much for your comments on my blog posts from FOREVER ago. I did not know they were there. I will put one or two more up soon, but my agent made me promise that until we have a publishing deal for my book (these posts are chapters from a larger book), I can't post too many. I do, however, need to get some tuned up for a wider audience, so maybe later on today, I'll post one. Thanks so much for your compliments, anyway. And I'm very familiar with NC and the wonderful seasons there. My husband and I both went to grad school in NC. I do miss those seasons...just beautiful!

Hey Leon--
I've just been running into some of your posts about gardening, and I thought you'd probably be interested in www.CarolinaGardens.org. It'd be great if you could share some of your knowledge w/ that community:)
I look forward to picking your brain on gardening topics and seeing more of your garden!
Cheers,
Aaron

It started with high hopes, but I quickly ran out of time for it. I really do need to get it updated with new pics of the cabin and get ready for the new things I need to put on the site. I have way too many irons in the fire!!!! Thanks for looking and commenting on it. I hope to make updates really soon.

Hi Leon - enjoyed the pictures of the berries. I'm going to plant a variety here this year. Fresh berries on vanilla ice cream is awesome.

Enjoyed looking at your other pictures too while I wrote this. Thanks for posting them!

Leon, Question...how much water should my baby broc and cabbage get? I still have them inside under lights and they are about five inches high. They are starting to droop. I try to keep the soil moist but maybe I am watering them too much? Also my romaine lettuce, it is leaning over. Is that normal? How much water do the babies need? Thanks for you help :) Deb

Hi Leon,
Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, we have a menagerie of animals here, and all live like royalty. Boyd and I put our animals first, and reap the rewards of incredibly affectionate and attentive animals. I also volunteer for Chinook Winds Greyhound Rescue, which brings retired racers out of the USA. It has been very rewarding, and lots of laughs and tears. We really are trying to simplify our lives - going smaller and greener, and relying more on ourselves and what we can do/produce, though it is in the starting phase. We have a 1929 farmhouse that needs a lot of work - insulation for starters as we can pay upwards of $300/month for fuel in winter! At this point it 's a toss up whether to renovate, or build new. I'm fascinated with straw/flax houses, geothermal heat etc., so we'll see where we go. Only two more months until spring...I can hardly wait to poke my fingers in the dirt again.

Leon, thanks for the response. Well I don't think I could teach you very much LOL I am just learning. By your pics I would say you could teach me a whole lot more :) I am envious of what you have produced. I wish we had some land to garden on. My husband and I would love to live in your area but it is very hard to find land that is affordable these days. But we haven't given up the dream!!
I have just planted some seeds in our back room and hope to plant in my containers. I just keep reading and asking questions. Maybe you would be open to answering some of my veggie questions?
Thanks, Deborah

Thank you for the "welcome". We are very much looking towards spring and getting back to the gardening. It will be a while before we see "dirt" though. Great pictures of your berries and pups.
