You can always find organic seed potatoes online. Try Here is a greate resource from WSU. Depending on where you live, I would say you could plant them anywhere from mid April to Mid may. Make sure to find out if you have a mid season or late se...

Great chicken pictures, Chris. Our family is enjoying our first year of chickens and also awaiting the arrival of our first eggs.

Hey ....I cracked an egg this morning for cooking and it had two yokes. I have never seen that before. It was a store bought egg at that.
I checked out gardengirltv.com and you were correct she is awesome. I will continue checking her website.

I bought the coop from a man who owns a sawmill in the next town over. I wish I could give you the plans. The chicken tractor (I just finished mine) plans are on the site www.gardengirltv.com. She is awesome! She raises chickens, goats and rabbits along with multiple raised beds on a very small plot of land in the city. Please check out her site.

With the rainbarrels, I usually bring watering cans to the beds or hook up a hose to the short length of hose that is already attached to the barrel. My lower barrel is up on a 2 ft. wooden platform for gravity feed. We've been having lots of rain lately so I have little need for the rainbarrels these days.

Chris, Hello this is new member Rodney Boyette. Can share the chicken coop plans with me as well as the green house. I had 6... 4'x4' raised beds. I used 12" x2" x 4' to build my beds. I have a 10' x 10' dog pen I am considering converting to a green house attached to a chicken coop or with a coop and rabbit hutch partically included inside it. Tell me more about getting water from rain barrel to the beds?
Thanks
Rodney

Hi Chris,
what a great website!! thanx!!
I love the chicken tractor, read about one on a larger scale in the Omnivore's Dilemma by M. Poullan but had a had time wrapping my brain around how to use it at my level. So great I do not need to re-invent the wheel!
thanx again

I have a total with where the house sits is 3/4 acre. I use about a 16 X 26' area for the veggie garden and eventually the chickens. I am getting a coop and building on a wire mesh run to make what is called a "Chicken Tractor". It will be like a looooooooong wheelbarrel-ish contraption. My goal is to make the run the same size as my veggie beds and, when I am done with a bed, I can put the whole tractor over the bed so they can fertilize, kill weeds and eat bugs from the bed. I learned about chicken tractors from Patti Mareno at www.gardengirltv.com. You really should visit her site. She has tons of videos about her urban garden with chickens, rabbits and mini goats. I have gotten so much info. from her site. Here is a video from her site.

Thanks!

I love to garden. Mostly vegetables. I am also a "treehugging" save-the-planet type person. I am always looking for new ways to reuse what I already have instead of going to the store for a "one trick pony" gadget.

How did you first find out about Gardenfork and Real World Green?
Looking for an easy coldframe recipe on Google videos.

Very informative video series

I found this multi-segment video on YouTube. This is a seminar by Bob Webster. He's an organic gardener, nurseryman and radio host. There are 9 more segments to this seminar. This particular set deals with vegetables and optimizing your garden soil. He has some great tips and tricks to build up your soil so you can grow just about anything with a minimum of pests and diseases. Although he is talking of southern soil, (Texas) a lot of his information can be utilized in any garden climate.… Continue

Vegetable Garden Update

Here is a close up of my onion sets and lettuce transplants. Notice the experimental square foot gardening technique in this bed. I thought I'd try it out to see if it makes planting any easier. I put 16 onion sets, 4 lettuce plants and one broccoli plant per sq. ft.… Continue
