Oh man, Mike! I hope you feel better soon! Your wife is right. You need your rest. Let someone else do a little work.

Oh, sorry. I'm just talking about the dooley! The solarcone, I would assume, be fine just about anywhere.

Yeah, this sounds a lot like a sour dough starter to me too. I think what distinguishes sour dough, though, is that the yeast in the dough is "wild", not cultivated as a byproduct of other processes (like making alcohol). Wild yeast is accompanied...

It is what's called a pre-ferment, and it adds mature dough flavor. Trust me, it's good. I keep some in the refrigerator (in a smaller covered bowl) and add flour and water all the time to the old stuff. The key here is to read the book - the most...

I'm surprised that the bear settled for the chicken feed and not the chickens! I'm looking forward to hearing the Extreme Makeover story too! Ah, male stripper pants. I think Carhartt makes a nice pair of those.

OK, that makes sense. But you were referring to the Doggie Dooley, yes? Not necessarily about the Solarcone? If we keep the Solarcone filled with kitchen scraps only, do you think the same applies?

Unfortunately, at this point I'm just guessing. I can tell you that in most cases the car washes are using as little water as is necessary. The self serve car washes definitely use less water, the drive throughs, most likely use less water.

Beautiful cross-section! I love how dark and rich and luscious the garden is above the sand!

Thanks for this. I didn't realize that the car washes recycled the water they used. Maybe all of them don't. But it makes sense that people use way less water than they do in their driveway at home. Any idea how much water is used in the big autom...

Two things. Wow! That's one cute bear! But that would terrify me if I saw it in my yard. Secondly, Extreme Makeover. I can't wait for that story.

I realized I forgot to tell you all about my adventures with bears. Our town is home to a robust black bear population, and an adolescent male recently developed a taste for my chicken feed. On his first visit, he ripped a hole in the run, so I pa...

In the instuctions for the Doggie Dooley, it says to "use common sense" when planting near a veg/fruit garden as well as to check with local laws about placing near a well. If I had a ton of space I would have a doggie dooley, but I don't. Since...

I do this, but it's also where the chickens run, so they help break it down AND add their poo. All that scratching and pooing do a great job over the winter. I also run over my leaves with the mulcher mower and dig them into the garden before the...

Which one contaminates? Or is it both? I'm interested in knowing more about that!
November 13
You can't use the Doggie Dooley any where near where you plant food crops. The waste and enzyme digester contaminate surrounding soil. I can't remember the exact dimensions, but it was bigger than my little city lot. I buy bio-bags that decompose...
